Ministry of Internal Affairs Represents Vanuatu at the 2nd Community of Practice Conference on Social Protection in the Pacific
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea — The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MoIA) is pleased to announce Vanuatu's participation in the 2nd Community of Practice (CoP) Conference on Social Protection in the Pacific, currently taking place in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
The regional conference brings together government representatives, development partners, technical experts, and social protection practitioners from 12 Pacific Island countries to strengthen regional collaboration and promote knowledge sharing on social protection systems. The conference serves as an important platform for countries to exchange experiences, identify common challenges, and explore practical solutions that enhance support for vulnerable and marginalised populations across the Pacific.
Representing Vanuatu at the conference are Ms. Georgina Tari, Deputy Registrar General, and Ms. Meava Magmui, Sector Analyst for the Justice Sector, who are attending as members of the National Comprehensive Social Protection Taskforce Committee.
Throughout the conference, delegates are engaging in discussions on key priorities aimed at strengthening national social protection systems, including:
- Social protection policy development and implementation;
- Support systems for persons with disabilities and older persons;
- Child protection and family welfare initiatives;
- Strengthening data systems and improving service delivery; and
- Digital transformation and innovation in social protection programmes.
Vanuatu's participation demonstrates the Government's ongoing commitment to developing inclusive, accessible, and resilient social protection systems that respond to the needs of all citizens, particularly those who are most vulnerable.
The conference also provides an opportunity for the Vanuatu delegation to learn from regional best practices, share national experiences, and strengthen partnerships with Pacific countries and development organisations working to improve social protection outcomes throughout the region.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recognises that effective social protection is fundamental to promoting social inclusion, reducing vulnerability, and strengthening community resilience. Through active engagement in regional forums such as the Community of Practice Conference, the Ministry continues to support national efforts to build coordinated policies and services that contribute to the wellbeing and dignity of all Ni-Vanuatu.
The knowledge and experiences gained from the conference will help inform Vanuatu's ongoing work through the National Comprehensive Social Protection Taskforce Committee, contributing to the development of stronger policies and more responsive social protection programmes that leave no one behind.
